Demonstration Videos That Show Exactly How It Works

Clear product, software and process demonstrations that make instructions easier to understand.

A demonstration video shows viewers how a product, piece of equipment, software platform or process works in practice. It can help customers make a buying decision, use a product correctly or solve a common problem without needing to contact your team.

Unlike a broader explainer video, which communicates what something is and why it matters, a demonstration video focuses on showing the steps, features or operation clearly.

A member of your team can present the demonstration, or we can arrange a suitable professional presenter. Production can include:

  • Discovery and planning consultation
  • Script development and a detailed shot list
  • Planning the clearest order in which to show each feature, step or instruction
  • Half-day or full-day filming in a realistic product-use or workplace setting
  • Direction to help staff members or presenters communicate naturally and clearly on camera
  • Close-up footage showing important controls, features, movements and results
  • Branded titles, intro and outro, instructional text, graphics and licensed music
  • A concise edit, normally around two to four minutes, with two review rounds included

Software demonstration videos can combine screen recordings with a presenter, voice-over, graphics or live footage to make workflows and features easier to follow.

You receive a practical, easy-to-follow video that can be used on product pages, help centres, sales presentations, staff training and retailer or distributor websites.

Typical investment: $2,500–$5,000 + GST

The final cost depends on the number of products or procedures, filming location, scripting requirements, graphics, presenter requirements and the number of edited videos.

A professional actor or presenter can be arranged from approximately $800 + GST, depending on usage, preparation and filming requirements.

Example Demonstration Videos

A practical product demonstration showing customers how to install a washing line, using a builder/actor.
Recipes are ideal for step-by-step demonstrations. This short highlights clip shows how product footage can make instructions more engaging.
This clip shows how to assemble a small display stand. We filmed six videos with the client’s staff in one day.
Software demonstration videos help prospective users understand complex features and workflows before starting a trial.

Make instructions easier to follow

Show each step, control or movement clearly so customers can understand the process more quickly than they could from written instructions and still images alone.

Support sales and distribution

Help buyers, retailers and distributors understand how the product works, what makes it different and how customers will use it in practice.

Reduce repeated support enquiries

Give customers a clear video they can watch whenever they need help, reducing the time your sales, training and customer-service teams spend answering the same questions.

Here are the questions clients most often ask when planning product, software and process demonstration videos.

Yes. A clear demonstration video answers common questions before customers need to contact your team, helping them understand how a product works, how to use it correctly, and what to expect. This can reduce repetitive support enquiries, improve customer confidence, and free up your staff to focus on more complex requests.

Think of it also as a “bottom of funnel” explanation of product features.

At the top of the sales funnel, when prospects are becoming aware of their issue, you want to communicate benefits without bogging them down in detail. But as they explore and want to know more, demonstration videos provide the detail of how it will work.

Typically we make up to half a dozen short clips for different but relatively straight forward products in a day.

Of course it will depend on size, complexity and the amount of setup required. Software demo’s can be a bit more involved and take more time. During planning, we’ll help create a filming schedule that makes the most efficient use of your production day.

Some options include:

  • a knowlegeable sales person or subject expert
  • the CEO or a director, to give leadership authority
  • a professional actor. After all, they train to present well on camera, including learning lines. We have actors we work with regularly, or we can source from sites like Starnow.
  • Just have voice-over, text and footage, so no need for a presenter

If a staff member or leader does feature, we’ll work with them to give their best

Yes. We can help as much or as little as you need.

Some clients prefer to prepare a first draft themselves, while others would rather we develop the script or interview questions for them. Usually, the best approach is a collaboration – you know your business and subject matter best, while we understand how to communicate ideas effectively in a video format.

When planning scripts and interview questions, we typically consider:

  • Who is the audience?
  • What problem are we trying to solve?
  • What is the key message?
  • What are the main benefits we should communicate?
  • How and where will the video be used?

For interview-based videos such as testimonials and case studies, we can also prepare interview questions and guide participants during filming so they feel comfortable and know what to say.

Many clients are initially concerned about scripting, but with a little planning the process is usually much easier than expected.

If you’d prefer, we can simply discuss your objectives and prepare a first draft for you. Simply use this form. We can give you a ring and write the script.

Check out the blog post about the merrits of looking straight at the camera, versus an ‘off camera’ interview style

Absolutely. In many cases, videos created for your website, events or presentations can also be edited into shorter versions for social media.

For example, a longer video may be repurposed into:

  • Short LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok videos.
  • Customer testimonial snippets.
  • Short promotional clips highlighting key messages.
  • Behind-the-scenes content.

Repurposing content is often one of the most cost-effective ways to maximise the value of your investment in video production, as it allows you to create a library of content from a single filming project.

When planning a project, we will discuss all the possible ways the footage could be used and ensure the right material is captured to suit different platforms and formats.

Where and how you distribute your videos can have a significant impact on how they should be planned and produced.

Some common places to use videos include:

  • Your website home page, service pages or About page.
  • Social media advertising on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.
  • Organic social media posts.
  • Reception screens and trade show displays.
  • YouTube, Vimeo or Wistia, including links used in emails and proposals.
  • Presentations at conferences and events.
  • Internal training and recruitment.
  • Cinema advertising or broadcast television.

Before making the videos, it is important to think about how they will reach your target audience and what will encourage people to watch.

Questions we may consider include:

  • What will capture attention in the opening few seconds?
  • What information is most important to the audience?
  • What are competitors doing, and how can we differentiate your videos?
  • Should the video tell a story, demonstrate a product, explain a complex idea or simply build trust?
  • Does the video need sound, captions or graphics to work effectively on different platforms?

Different platforms often require different approaches. For example, a video on your website may allow more time to explain a complex topic, whereas a social media advertisement may need to communicate its message within the first few seconds.

It’s also worth considering whether one filming day can produce multiple pieces of content. A longer video for your website may also provide shorter social media clips, recruitment videos or customer testimonial snippets.

At Clips That Sell, we work through these questions during the planning phase to ensure your videos are designed not only to look professional, but also to work effectively wherever they are distributed.
